North American Culture and Multinational Firm Advertising Research Paper
North American Culture and Multinational Firm Advertising - Research Paper Example This essay "North American Culture and Multinational Firm Advertising" outlines the importance of the right international marketing strategy. Multinational firms may either succeed or fail in their endeavor to incorporate cultural traits and behavior into their marketing and sales initiatives in foreign locales. Multinational firms are usually structured in the same way as a typical local firm (Sankar and Rau 27). However, there are differences in terms of adopting a standard structure, which has to be followed by the sub-companies in line with the complexity of their business practices. In general, these firms may put emphasis on functionality, product, and/or geography, when planning on the standard organizational structure of their subsidiaries (Sankar and Rau 27). The exposure of multinational firms, to an environment where technology and the level of competition are changing is the factor that forces them to adopt new strategies to make sure that their structure is fit to what i s needed in the foreign industry. In most cases, multinational firms adopt a regional organization structure because of the need to develop customized marketing activities that is appropriate to the local culture and situation in a foreign market (Britton 199). This structure is deemed to be the most appropriate organizational form if firms consider localization. This structure is headed by a regional manager instead of a subsidiary manager, who has limited reach to regional offices. Specifically, Avon Products take this organizational form. ... Operation of International Advertising Firms The burden of formulating the right advertising concept for a brand is placed on international advertising firms. Since their services are project based, there is often pressure in meeting the demands of clients, especially when these are multinational firms that have high expectations. The basic goal is to promote the same product under the same brand using a uniform strategy (Sotomayor 131). However, because the goal of a multinational firm is to make an advertisement campaign charismatic to various cultures, localization needs to be adopted (Sotomayor 131). Multinational firms now exist in a global market, where there are varied local rules and expectations (Sotomayor 132). As a result, international advertising firms have to suit the campaign to what is culturally acceptable. For instance, when the first novel in the Harry Potter series was promoted in the United States the title was Harry Potter and the Sorcererââ¬â¢s Stone whereas in other locations, the title was Harry Potter and the Philosopherââ¬â¢s Stone (Sotomayor 132). A change like this has to be made so that the audience may well understand the context of the movie and be enticed to watch it. Fundamentally, the type of product or service, that is set to be promoted, is an important element to consider in international marketing. The factor is crucial because there is a possibility that the product or service will not be acceptable, as per the local culture. The study conducted by Chang of multinational firms and localization in China showed that multinational firms from differing industries have differing growths (Figure 2.0). This figure supports those consumption rates of the types products vary from one industry to another (30-31). Figure 2.0 Industry

Financial Ratios Used in the Financial Statements and Policies Coursework
Financial Ratios Used in the Financial Statements and Policies - Coursework Example The financial statement prepared with the help of financial ratios is an aid to find out the efficient operation of the business for the share holders, competitors, and outsiders who are willing to invest in the firm. These ratios play a key role in calculating the dividend to shareholders, interest to debenture holders, as well as the tax payable to the government. They also express the risk factor and bankruptcy chances of the firm. There have been no convincing theories on financial ratios over the years. Horrigan (1965), writes on how the financial ratios were originated and how the theories were not. He says that a unique outcome of the accounting evolution in the United States was the development of financial ratios which helped in analyzing accounting statements. Such ratios were originally formulated for using short-term credit analytical devices. The origin of such ratios can be traced out as far back as the late 19th century. A number of various financial ratios were developed by the analysts in the early decades of the century. The next step after the formulation of such ratios was the development of the body of empirical generalization about such financial ratios which later turn out to be the hypothesis for drawing out a theory of financial ratio analysis. However, the materialization of a system of empirical generalization never happened, much less a theory (Horrigan, 1965). There are a number of sources for the collection of information for financial ratio analysis. The Profit and Loss Account and the Balance Sheet serves as the main source for information.

Analysis - Essay Example Thoreauââ¬â¢s character is discernible from his ability as a writer and philosopher. His principles were strong enough for him to accept a jail term without resistance. As a result, his concept associates with the willingness to suffer, and it manages to transcend through generations. In Thoreauââ¬â¢s opinion, life is about cooperating with good deeds and ensuring that the society is led in a justified manner. Concerning leadership, he asserts, "That government is best which governs least" (Thoreau). He believes that governments are not necessary because they are sometimes, inadvisable. This is evident in the present societal context where governments are oppressive. It is necessary to prioritize right over wrong. Oneââ¬â¢s conscience must be over the laws that govern a territory. For instance, the laws on slavery were quite oppressive for many slaves, but some White settlers nevertheless encouraged slavery because of the existing policies. According to Thoreau, people should not follow the law if it undermines their dignity. Although evil is unavoidable, one should not indulge or be part of the evil. Thoreau demonstrated this when he refused to pay taxes in rebellion to the tyrannical government (Gross 11). In the present society, the United States engages in war, for instance, the war in Afghanistan. Thoreau sees this as an oppressive process that signifies an unjust government that performs evil actions, even on powerless members in the society. Thoreau confirms that there is no use of reforms in government institutions. Despite the change of regimes and election processes, little change occurs within political circles, and the populace fails to enjoy the accompanying advantages that come with change. Thoreau ideologically distanced himself from the government and its related institutions because of its greed. This is evident in the present society in

Theories of Power Transfer Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Theories of Power Transfer - Essay Example Survival is the driving force, thus, states must develop their offensive capabilities to increase their power. As a reflection of this selfishness, and to ensure their own survival, states seek to develop their offensive capabilities, or their military power, so that they can take over the territories of other states to increase their relative power. This means that their power is relative, that is, in relation to the other states (Fozouni, 2008). In the international system, the principal actors are the sovereign states, where the independent influence of international organizations, sub-states or trans-state actors is dismissed. Nationalism is important, while the importance of sub-national groupings or transnational ideological of cultural groupings are diminished. This theory has several key assumptions. Neorealism is based primarily on the assumption that mankind is selfish and competitive. It is not benevolent, rather it is self-centered. Its fundamental assumption is that the international system is chaotic and anarchic. Since the state is the primary actor, there is no higher governing authority to which they bow to. States must muddle through in their relations with each other, with no higher authority that can impose or dictate on any one of them. That is, there is no such thing as a world government. Furthermore, it assumes that sovereign states are the primary actors and not international institutions, non-government organizations, or multinational corporations. According to this theory, every state is a rational actor who will always watch out for its own interest and ensure its security. In the pursuit of its own security, every state will do everything to build up its resources, so that more resources will mean more power for the s tate. Their level of power will determine their relations with other states, and this level of power is in turn determined by its military and economic capabilities. Also, states are inherently aggressive, always seeking to expand its territories. This territorial aggression is only tempered by other states. However, this build-up will trigger an increase in the opposing state's security, which will result in relative gains only (Thies, 2004). In terms of the European Union, this means that the Community itself, is merely a gathering of sovereign states - an international rather than supranational organization. Thus, the decision-making in terms of economic, monetary, political, and security matters is still in the sovereign states. Ultimate authority and power will remain with the member states. Thus, the Community is merely a reflection of the desires of the member states to cede or delegate authority, which they can easily recall or revoke. The primary reason that the Community appears to be integrated is because the member states feel that this will serve their interests best. Neorealists view the Community of the future as a loose integration of the member states who have agreed to surrender or pool their sovereignty. Neoliberalism As a response to neorealism, the neoliberalism was born. Some label this as Thatcherism (United Kingdom), Reaganomics (United States of America), Economic Rationalism (Australia), Rogernomics (New Zealand) or Manmohanomics (India). Neoliberalism describes a movement away from the state control. In its pure form, this theory centers on

Practical Project Assessment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Practical Project Assessment - Essay Example The basic idea here is to explore the various elements that compose a horror film and how these ideas may have evolved into current film making practices. The current project starts out with a clear opening image that has been extracted as a long shot except that the image has been processed to provide a certain gloom. The image has been darkened on purpose to portray a large building that is surrounded by empty trees. The camera has been kept at a low angle to look into the buildingââ¬â¢s top to provide an overwhelming sensation. The contention here was to exaggerate the size of the building and to make it appear as dark as possible. The lower right hand corner of this image is particularly dark and portrays a sense of fear of the unknown. This can be compared with ease to the manner in which typical Hollywood horror films tend to open up ââ¬â an overwhelming scene of darkness is portrayed that provides the viewer with an automated response that the current film is based on h orror (Carroll, 2010;; Bennett & Beirne, 2011). In addition, the title of the project ââ¬Å"Roommateâ⬠has been displayed in the lower reaches of the screen using a contrasting colour and capital letter only. This is intended to provide a stark contrast to the dark and gloomy background to make the inscription prominent (Carroll, 2010; Davis, 2010). The project has been provided with a sinister audio track from the very beginning which is interrupted at 0:02 for a thunder sound effect. This is followed by an inversion of the screenââ¬â¢s colours at 0:06 and 0:07 to portray lightning. The inverted colour screen has a shadowy figure portrayed in all white at the lower right hand side of the screen depicting a ghost. This was meant to provide the audience with a clear idea that this project is a horror film woven around ghosts. However, there is a technical error in the manner in which the lightning and thunder have been portrayed. Typically, lightning is seen first and thunde r is heard later while in the current project this has been reversed. However, it could be argued that the use of lightning and thunder is a common technique used in films to introduce sinister objectives (Landau & White, 2000; Glick, 2011; Landau & White, 2000). Thunder and lightning have been used as early as Frankenstein (1937) right down to modern day classics such as Edward Scissorhands (1990) to portray sinister elements. Most horror films are woven around the concept of thunder and lightning that is also utilised to indicate accentuation as well as climaxes in these films (Mackendrick, 2005; Rosenthal, 1980). The current film is essentially a composition of images taken from the previous term that have been placed together sequentially. As the film opens up, the protagonist is shown walking into a dorm room with clear lightning that tends to reveal the mise en scene very clearly. The dorm room has been portrayed as realistically as possible keeping the element of scattered be longings and student clutter in place. The protagonistââ¬â¢s makeup has been kept minimal and the costume in use is a simple pyjama with a sweater to portray an average student lurking around in a dorm. The protagonist approaches a laptop placed on the table and the cameraââ¬â¢s focus changes over to the laptopââ¬â¢s screen. The transition from the protagonistââ¬â¢s face to the laptop screen is a straight cut so that it resembles contemporary practice (Rosenthal, 1972). The other option was to

Individual vs Circumstance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Individual vs Circumstance - Essay Example lity can play a significant role in the history not only when it is more or less adequately expresses (or seeks to express) the interests of the masses, but also when it is guided by purely abstract ideas and ideals, and sometimes even only by its personal interests and ambitions that cannot be rationally confessed by itself. Modern investigators show Lenins personality from different points of view. For a long time Soviet ideology praised Lenin as a role-model person for soviet people, showing him as "the most humane man" and the liberator from the bourgeois-landlord oppression. From the other hand, many writers and historians show Lenin as unprincipled politician, organizer of fratricidal slaughter and starvation, as inspirer of extrajudicial executions and blame him in collapse of his social experiment. Vladimir Ulyanov-Lenin came from a family of progressive Russian intellectuals: his father worked as a teacher, was an inspector, and then a director of public schools in the province of Simbirsk, and his mother knew several foreign languages, played the piano well and had a tutor diploma. From his early childhood Lenin exhibited the traits of someone who needed to show others how to do things (Tumarkin, 64). His outlook during first periods of his youth was influenced by family upbringing and parentsââ¬â¢ example. He also was under the influence of revolutionary and democratic ideas and learned about the existence of Marxist theory from his brother Alexander Ulyanov, who was later executed for participation in plotting of the assassination on Russian Tsar Alexander III. At the university young Ulyanov established links with the revolutionary-minded students, but then he was arrested for active participation in student gathering in December 1887 and later he was expelled from the University of Kazan and exiled to the village of Kokushkino, where he lived under the secret police surveillance spending his time on self-education. So Leninââ¬â¢s personality was formed
Same Sex Marriage Essay Example for Free
Same Sex Marriage Essay Same sex marriage is a socially recognized marriage between two persons of the same biological sex or social gender. Status of LGBT (Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual) in the Philippines is discriminated because they said it is sinful being that one. Many of them are being killed, canââ¬â¢t find job or canââ¬â¢t go to school because they are not accepted by people. In the Philippines, same sex marriage is strictly prohibited because Catholic Church donââ¬â¢t agree with that, based on the bible, there are only two gender, a man and woman. There are also many people who are very conservative so they donââ¬â¢t like people who are Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual because they think that they are immoral and also culture of the Philippines makes that prohibit. I actually support and agree with the same sex marriage though Catholic Church prohibits that. I believe anyone should marry who they want. Age doesnââ¬â¢t matter and gender sure doesnââ¬â¢t either. If two people are in love for the right reasons, then they should be allowed to marry without being harassed. The government doesnââ¬â¢t have any right to tell you who you can and who you canââ¬â¢t marry. I believe everyone should be guaranteed the right to be happy as long as they arenââ¬â¢t harming anyone else or imposing any other rights and I just donââ¬â¢t see how this harms anyone else freedoms. It is not right that people judge those Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual because we have the right to choose what we want in life. Assuming Iââ¬â¢m a lesbian, I donââ¬â¢t actually care what people think about me as long as I donââ¬â¢t do any harm for them and I am civil. I wonââ¬â¢t mind what they say because Iââ¬â¢m living for myself and for my happiness not with them, so why I should mind people that donââ¬â¢t contribute any good things in my life. People who want to marry the same gender should be true to themselves and to others, they should fight for their rights and donââ¬â¢t mind what others tell them.
