The project was started in the year 2004 and officially inaugurated in the year 2013 by the Turkish Republic. Other funding were from the European Investment Bank, and Counsel of European Development Bank, In total the estimated project cost was $4.5bn. Competitive bidding was carried out to select a proper engineering firm that was to undertake the project thereby ensuring quality work.Various stakeholders were involved at different stages of the Marmaray Project. Engineering experts from all ov er the world all contributed to its success. All the above mentioned Banks gave their best to make it a success. The BCI and the CRI Contractors were both awarded for the success of this mega project.
