Gay Marriage Should Be Legal - 1726 Words

Up until about ten years ago the thought of same-sex marriage in the United States was taboo and predominately looked at as wrong. This was only dreamt about for many yet over the decades it has become more and more a reality each day. In American society today they re 35 States where gay marriage is legal and only 15 where it is not. Despite the number of states on board, the gay community still doesn t have the same rights as heterosexuals. In most cultures, the LGBTQ community can t adopt or marry, and a lot of religious still oppose homosexuality. Although the gay rights movement is extremely popular, should there be limits? Can homosexuals be just as good parents as heterosexual parents? Is it right for a child to grow up with†¦show more content†¦This means that the relationship does not need the permanency that marriage provides because there s most commonly no children involved. It has been said that there s a state interest in supporting the reproductive family un it, and that is absolutely true. This can be accomplished, however, without excluding non-reproductive families; there s no reason that homosexual couples must be excluded any more than there s a reason that sterile couples or couples who simply do not wish to have kids should be excluded (and these heterosexual couples are not excluded at present). While there is a rational basis for the government to support heterosexual reproductive marriage, there is no rational basis for supporting it to the exclusion of others. Therefore, there is the assumption that a same-sex relationship is only bound by how long the love lasts and isn’t looked at as anything more than that. This groups all same-sex unions into one general category without taking any other contributing factors into consideration To some people these are perfectly valid points to stand by, but numerous same-sex couples want to experience the bond and love that comes along with being married. What might be oddly surpri sing to some people is that many same sex couples want the same things that heterosexuals want, like expressing their love through marriage like any normal
